She will turn 80 on July 2nd. One of the most notorious first ladies ever, Imelda Markos claims that she is struggling to stay presentable. Notwithsatnding the huge amounts of wealth her late husband Ferdinand amassed during his 20 year rule. Imelda lived a life of unashamed opulence during the days of Ferdinand's rule, and had collections of shoes and jewellery that have since become legendary. Recently she has claimed that she is nearly broke and only has a diamond ring.
She has displayed, spent and amassed immense amounts of wealth in the midst of Phillipine's poverty, and will always be remembered with bitterness for that by most Phillipinos.
