In her latest article, Margaret Wente, a leading award winning Candian columnist talks about how one is a real Canadian only if one has had sex in a canoe. She has taken the thought from Pierre Berton's quote "A Canadian is someone who has learnt how to have sex in a canoe".

According to her, Canada is actually about nature. Pristine, big, awe-inspiringly beautiful and challenging. Although most Canadians haven't ever stepped out of their cities and their confined comfort zones, she feels that the authentic soul of Canada is the wilderness, raw, tough and bewitchingly beautiful.

She recounts how, to feel like a real Canadian, right after becoming a Canadian citizen in 1979, she went into the Canadian wilderness, and did that whole nature thing summed up by 'having sex in a canoe'.
